Pretoria to Blythe River Canyon

Pretoria to Blythe River Canyon

Today we went on a city tour of Pretoria, the capital of South Africa. Pretoria is famous for its Jacaranda trees, a beautiful exotic looking purple tree. Pretoria has more than 70,000   Jacaranda trees.

We were also supposed to stop at the Law Courts, but due to the sentencing of Oscar Pretorious, all the streets were blocked with TV crews and police.

We went on to see a statue of Nelson Mandela, which is in front of the Pretoria City Hall, which the South Africans claim to be the most beautiful City Hall of the world.

One other thing we went to visit was the “Voortrekker Monument”. The voortrekkers were the boers, who were forced to migrate because of the English. The history is very complicated, and there were many bloody battles. To commemorate their history, they built this very large monument.

The next day we left Haia Safari Ranch and drove to the RV rental place. All our RV’s were lined up and ready to go. Our RV happened to be one of the very newest ones on the lot. After a bit of getting used to it, we were on our way.

We started off slowly, as they drive on the left side of the road in SA, something that you just need a little bit of practice and time to get used to.

Our route took us away from the big capital and up into some very mountainous terrain, Blythe River Canyon. Very, very, beautiful. We also ended up in some clouds, driving through thick fog, not so much fun! But all went well.
