Baobab Trees,
Botswana (October 26)
We are on our way
from Victoria Falls to Namibia. We are driving west mostly, so the days are
starting to get longer. Yippie, we can even pack more stuff into our days (as if
our days were not full enough already).
Today was mostly
driving, not much along the way, some ostrich, donkeys, cows, a couple of
elephants. For our efforts of driving all day, we are treated to a wonderful
campground, called Planet Baobab. It is a couple of kilometers off the main
road, down a gravel road, in the middle of nowhere. (I say this everyday, wow,
we are in the middle of nowhere!!!).
There is no way we
would stop here if our tour operator hadn’t picked this for us, and it is
unbelievably beautiful. It is set up in the style of an African Village, with
the savanna all throughout, a lovely pool (in the middle of nowhere!!!), a bar,
restaurant, and the oldest and most incredible BAOBAB trees. We don’t know how
old they are, we are guessing at hundreds and hundreds of years. Here are some
pictures:
Elephant along highway....
Cooling off after a hot, hot day driving....
Typical African setting
Baobab Trunk, couldn't even get the whole thing on camera....
Sunset, hard to pick a picture, we got thousands more.....
Walkway from restaurant towards campsite. Stay on path, snakes possible!
These rondavels can be rented, they are beautiful.
More sunset, with baobab in front...
Look at the size of this trunk, it's even bigger than what the camera can do...
And one picture at night time, pretty mysterious looking.....
